As expected, Sony has partially unveiled the new Subscription based service for the PS3. This service will be “on top” of the current FREE PlayStation Network.
This is to clarify that everything you enjoy currently on the PSN will remain free.
For $49.99 USD per year, or $17.99 USD for 3 months, gamers will gain access to a one year Qore Subscription, exclusive beta access to select upcoming games, early access to demos and trials of major games such as inFAMOUS, free minis and occasional free PSN titles such as Wipeout HD which comes free with the first month’s subscription.
The service will offer gamers hundreds of dollars worth of content at a small price. This content will remain under your ownership for as long as your subscription is maintained.
Sony also announced that the first 3 months of the service will be free. It is unclear if the Service wil be free to all for the first 3 months, or that subscribers will gain an additional (first 3) months free, on top of their $49.99 payment.
PlayStation Plus is expected to go live later this month, and more details on the service and it features will be announced soon.
Cross game voice chat maybe? We’ll see.
Existing Qore subscribers and those who subscribe before December 15th will find an email in their inbox with an invite to the ModNation Racers Beta.
The voucher will be sent to the e-mail address tied to your PSN ID.

PlayStation Network has been churning out amazing after amazing downloadable games for everyone to enjoy ever since the network launched in ’06. These games don’t just make themselves…there are hard working indie developers that through creative minds and passion for innovative gaming sculpt these games into the gems you see on PSN today.
One of these indie developers and my personal favourite are the PixelJunk team from Japan, Q-Games. These guys have made three of the most popular games ever to hit the PlayStation Store, and the names of these games are easily recognised…PIXELJUNK!
From fast paced Racers, to tower defense Monsters and to the soothing Eden, Q-Games has created some of the best downloaded games I have ever played, and based on feedback from personal friends and comments on the internet, these games are favourites among many.
Just recently PixelJunk Monsters was reborn as a new title for the PSP system, but as for a totally new inventive game, nothing new since PixelJunk Eden in 2008. This month though, Q-Games is bringing forth another immersive title that aims to capture those idle funds from your PSN Wallet.
PixelJunk Shooter, announced earlier this year is almost out the door and the hype is increasing as the developer has taken alot of time to make this game as best as they could. In PixelJunk Shooter, the player pilots a subterranean vehicle that navigates through diverse cave-like complexes that are dynamic and o so visual. The goal of the game is getting through these detailed environments (water, magma, earth etc.) by manipulating the environment. There are also survivors in these environments that are to be rescued.
Enough talking for now and lets let the video speak for itself:
Reviews have already begun surfacing and they for the most part hold high praise for this new title.
The developer also has high hopes for this game and they have hosted a facebook group for some time now with the intention of becoming the first Million game seller on PSN. Its a very very steep figure to aim for as the digital download era is still fairly new, but we can all contribute to give Q-Games and the PixelJunk series the success it deserves.
PSNTT look forward to PixelJunk Shooter to be hitting the PlayStation Store (PS3) on Thursday, December 10, 2009.
Interesting week for Qore as co-host Audrey Cleo takes you the viewer inside ILM Studios, the Lucasarts owned company that has scultped the visuals for some of the most action packed movies of all time (Transformers, Iron Man, Indiana Jones to name a few..)
Host Veronica Belmont takes you behind the scenes of the LittleBigPlanet meets racer title, ModNation Racers.
And to top it all off, Assassins Creed 2 is out in 2 weeks, and Qore takes you inside the studio for some exclusive gameplay and character information.
Qore can be purchased from the PlayStation Store:
Qore Episode 18: November 2009 ($2.99) – File size: 1.63 GB
Qore Annual Subscription: November 2009 ($24.99) – 13 Episodes, starting this month.
