At GDC 2010, Sony announced the PlayStation Move [pictured]. The PlayStation Move is the PlayStation Motion Controller demonstrated at last year’s E3 now with a much more refined and professional look.

The controller uses the PlayStation Eye to track its position, and sensors to detect its motion.  Like the Wii Nunchuk, there will be a PlayStation Move Sub-Controller which has an analogue stick and directional pad.

The PlayStation Move will be competing against Microsoft’s Natal, which is also due for release later this year, and the Wii in general.

After a day of frustration, rage and worry about today’s PSN crash, the network is finally back online.

Source: [PlayStation.Blog - PSN Restored]

On Sunday 28th February, the PSN became inaccessable and gamers were shown a 8001050F Error code display. A quick search of this code revealed that the entire world of PS3 users, excluding the PS3 Slim users, suffered a similar fate.

It was revealed that the error was caused by the fat-systems’ internal clock treating 2010 as a leap year.

More on this Major PSN Crash:[PlayStation.Blog - Latest Info On PSN Status]

During this temporary crisis, Sony announced that PS3 users must not use the console until after word of the fix or else…”or else” meant possible loss of data etc. I have just had experience of this “or else” but in a minor form which I will describe in the forums here.

So, yes Trinidad and Tobago…it should be safe to turn on your PS3 (but I take no account for anything that may happen =P).

Bad news, everyone.

I tried to log in with my PS3 this morning, and, not only was I not able to sign in, but some of my games (in particular, MvC2) had reverted to their trial versions. I thought that my PS3 system itself was just being wacky, until I read this:

All around the world, PlayStation 3 consoles simply aren’t working like they’re supposed to, with an error preventing people from not just going online, but from playing some PS3 games offline as well.

From Europe to the Americas to, well, my house in Australia, users (mostly of older “Fat” consoles, those released before 2009’s “PS3 Slim”) are complaining that upon booting their consoles up, they’re unable to sign into their accounts, check their trophies, use dynamic themes or access the PlayStation Network. That’s fine, Sony say there are PSN connection problems, and that they are “looking into it”.

Problem is, the error does more than just prevent you from going online. It prevents you from playing certain games offline as well. Even for some consoles that aren’t connected to the PSN, like debug units. The screen above is what I was greeted with on a retail console when attempting to play Heavy Rain, and pressing out of it simply reboots the PS3, returning you to the main menu screen. It’s the same story for other games that feature dynamic trophy support.

PSN games are no different; I tried to boot up “Flower”, only to be greeted with a similar message about failed copyright protection, and it was right back to the XMB.

Sony say “stay tuned” for updates on the problem.

Stay tuned for further updates. Until then, it looks like we’re gonna have to do something else. Anybody up for Robot Unicorn Attack?

Ok really, you may have gotten excited for some rain in T&T as we’re experiencing a drought, but something better than rain comes in the form of PS3 Exclusive “Heavy Rain”.

Heavy Rain is a breakthrough title bringing forth a new genre of games and a new way to interact with video games as an entertainment medium.
Where every decision in the game changes the story, where if you die the story continues and morph’s around your death, where emotion of the characters and decisions affect you emotionally, where hollywood cinema meets gaming…. We can go on and on praising this game in so many regards.
Clearly the reviews speak for themselves with Heavy Rain claiming many high review scores and many perfect.

Visit Metacritic for a summary of worldwide reviews: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/heavyrain

Also take a look at the UK region Television Ad for Heavy Rain that summarises the game o so well:

Sony and PlayStation continues to push boundaries for Gaming and finally after 3 years and a rocky first year start, PS3 is getting the recognition it so deserves.
With exclusives like Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, MAG, HEAVY RAIN, God of War Collection & God of War 3 to name a few and also multiplatform titles Bioshock 2, Dante’s Inferno, Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, FINAL FANTASY XIII and Tekken 6, again naming a few, it is crystal clear which is the superior console and platform for gaming.

PS3 has gone on to win mega-tech-blog Engadget’s Console of the Year and User Voted Home Entertainment Device of the year.
PS3 in the ratings has also received the most high quality games of 2009 amongst any platform.
If in the market for a Console, there should be no thought process but PlayStation.
2010 will push PS3 beyond imagination with Sony’s introduction of the Motion Controller and the introduction of 3D gaming to the masses in an upcoming Firmware Update.
Additionally 2010 may also see the introduction of premium services to the PlayStation Network such as “Cloud Storage” of game saves (where your save files are sycned with Sony’s servers and if the console fails, can be recovered by downloading) amongst dozens of other features.
Playstation Network has also brought forward a free weekly TV show for its members in the form of The TESTER, which premiered on the Playstation Network last week.

With Heavy Rain to wet our appetite before March’s FINAL FANTASY XIII, and GOD OF WAR 3,
we ask this question:
HOW MUCH MONEY WILL YOU SPEND FOR THE GAMING THAT YOU LOVE?

Heavy Rain is in stores today in the US and select local stores. Expect Heavy Rain to be in most stores by next week.

This game is shaping up to be one of the most original, interactive-story experience this year and is due for release on February 23rd. It has similarities to a film-noir thriller and somehow reminds me of Silence of the Lambs.

The mall-scene gameplay above can only get you excited so much (and annoyed at ‘Jason’). That is why there is the news of a demo that will be released on the PSN come February 11th. The demo contains 2 chapters; one featuring FBI agent Norman Jayden attempting to track down the Origami Killer, the other on  Scott Shelby, PI.

“Hustle Kings is undoubtedly the most realistic and entertaining billiards game available anywhere…period” says Aaron Orsak, US Producer of Hustle Kings.

I’m pretty sure most of you have played a pool game at some point in your life, most likely on the PC and I pretty sure you enjoyed it. You may even have been lucky to play the real thing in a bar somewhere. But Hustle Kings is Pool meets PS3, as a full game, boasting the best simulation and graphics for a pool game ever. If you want the perfect Pool Game for your PS3, get Hustle Kings. Just as Gran Turismo is to car racing, Hustle Kings is to Pool/Billiards etc.

I’m certainly getting this title when it releases this Thursday, January 28th for US$9.99 on the PSN.

Here is the Hustle Kings Trailer:

See [PlayStation.Blog] for more information on the game.
